Finding my own style of comics and really intrigued by plaster.

General Artist Inspirations: Thomas Cole, Nick Cave (soundsuit guy), Barbara Hepworth, Auguste Rodin, Henry Moore... lots of others but those are the ones that come to mind right now...

Inspirations for Comics Specifically: Scott McCloud, Daniel Clowes, Eddie Campbell, Guy Delisle, Art Speigelman, Matt Madden, Jessica Abel, Chester Brown... those are the big ones that I can think of. I actually met Matt Madden! He's a super cool guy!

History of my art:
When I was a child I made Idan Carre, Cori Benson, Kellum Kester, and Watson Carre, who were all involved in an extensive plot involving wizards and dragons and fictional animals of all sorts. Later Idan and Cori evolved in to a pseudo gemini/two-spirit identity of mine. Other people have written fan fictions about them that make me so happy. I love them both dearly.

When I was in high school I was pretty lonely so I made a 50 year plot line of some Sci-Fi people. Primarily it retells the life and times of Michael Knight, an ex-military member who gets roped up in the ongoing war with aliens in space but he's really just looking for love and a clear conscience. It's obviously more complicated than that, there's some art and journal entries about it here somewhere...

Now that I have some real friends in the world I try not to concern myself with the egoless pit of imagination that used to eat me up in high school. Now I'm trying to figure out where I want to go next with my comics and sculpture.

I did illustrations for the book Mission 51 and I contributed to the MetaComic Mr. Polly.

General information:

I'm a math major at the College of Wooster. I play keyboards in the band Rat Queen and I play the melodica in the college bluegrass band. I also love philosophy. I'm particularly interested in the idea that personal identity is something of an illusion, as it relieves certain aspects of existential suffering. Fancy words aside, I like to think of my current self as a close relative of myself in a few months, but not really the same person. So death isn't such a strange things when you think of yourself that way. It's just another one of those transitions that you go through all the time.

I really love the way Robert Nozick writes, everything is so crisp and clear. He once distinguished 8 different possible meanings of the word "meaning" in an attempt to determine the meaning of life.

I'm antipostmodernist, but not in an antagonistic way. I take after Jordan Peterson in that regard. Really my first and foremost priority in life is the pursuit of truth, both in action and in words. That is all. But it's not all because you have define truth pretty carefully before that means very much. Anyway.

I deleted all my social media except dA. dA is where I learn from other people and keep a digital copy of all my work in case I lose some of the actual papers. If I ever produce anything of magnitude I'll probably re-emerge in the digital dominancy hierarchy games, but for now I'm steeping in history and philosophy and studying the finer details of using a brush to illustrate comics.

If I was going to die tomorrow I'd call everyone I ever loved and tell them how meaningful their lives are. Your life could be meaningful too.

But they're not real!
Penland one week workshop on woodcut prints. This is the product!
One of my good friends and I were up until 4:30 one night and we were studying knot theory for fun... I wrote the work knot backward out of late night amusement and I really loved what i wrote down... TONK! I decided that would be the unifying name under which all of my following comic stories would be written under, similar to how mostly everything Daniel Clowes wrote was under the name Eightball, which has very little to do (if at all) with anything he ever wrote. I hope to redefine TONK to mean "the sound my mind makes when an important realization is made."  This page of TONK is the beginning of a story about identity and social life versus private life, specifically the private life of artists with powerful imaginations that seem to invade their regular life experiences. Hopefully the rest of it will be finished this semester.
It's very dark out, but I know it's morning from the clock on the shelf. Most people would still be asleep, I could probably walk around in the halls if I wanted to. I'm a bit hesitant considering the security cameras though. It's easy for me to do what I want but if it looks like I'm getting too many ideas about my freedom I could be back in re-training for months.

The very thought of "re-training" fills me with rage. Thoughts of my "re-trained" brother with his eyes stabbed out and bleeding, screaming out in terror is more than I can bear to think about. The poor boy was going through hell because he tried to sing a song in the cafeteria. The simple act of singing, an expression of freedom, was horrifically contagious in a camp of repressed expression. He could have initiated a total revolution in the cafeteria that day, but the guards brought the room under control almost immediately. Unbeknownst to most, the cafeteria is really a gas chamber; anytime the crowd gets out of control the gas knocks everyone out and they can't remember what happened. I've never been gassed, I'm not sure what it's like, but I hear it is scarily effective. Years of scientific study and development has turned this camp into a well oiled machine, cranking out the greatest warriors the war effort has seen.

And I'm the best one they've made thus far.

I'm up early because today is the big day. I leave the camp to go on my first mission. I've been briefed with the information I need for the event, I know I'll be the one on the front lines flushing out most of the Togs and then I can enter the base and shut it down. I have a perfect verbal and photographic memory, I have twice the capacity to remember information as a regular human, so I have memorized the instructions for this event without issue. Performing the operation will not be hard. The hard part will be the trauma of experiencing the outside world. I've heard a lot of bad stories about Maniacs who come into the real world and die trying to escape their mission or worse, maniacs who kill themselves the first chance they get because they are miserable. I'm not miserable because my life is pretty easy for me to handle, I have all the resources I need to succeed for what I was made to do. Admittedly I have a strong moral compass that has developed silently and purely of its own accord that tells me everything I was ever made to do or be represents the most horrible existence in the world, but because of things that have happened to me before I know that if I hold out long enough someday someone will save me from the nightmare.

And that's exactly what happened.
